Apple Studio Displays Get 128GB Storage
The Apple Studio Display and Studio Display XDR come with A19 and A19 Pro chips, respectively, and each model features 128GB of internal NAND storage.
With these A-series chips, the Studio Displays run on an iOS-based operating system, which utilizes the internal storage. The A19 and A19 Pro manage camera processing for the Center Stage camera, color calibration, USB and Thunderbolt device management, spatial audio, and more.
The storage is required for pre-installed software, future firmware updates, and potentially for diagnostics, but it is not allocated for user-accessible features.
The previous-generation Studio Display had 64GB of storage, so the latest models now offer double the capacity. Apple likely opted to use existing iPhone NAND modules rather than producing smaller, less expensive storage chips. Much of the 128GB storage is likely surplus to requirements.
In addition to 128GB of storage, the Studio Display comes with 8GB RAM, while the Studio Display XDR includes 12GB RAM. The new displays were launched today and are available for purchase through the Apple Store online as well as at Apple retail locations.
